Super Eagles striker to miss start of Turkish League season after preseason injury

Turkish Super Lig giants Trabzonspor announced an injury in the preseason to Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu.

Super Eagles forward Paul Onuachu has suffered an injury in training, which is expected to rule him out until after the first few games of the new season.

Onuachu injury 

The former Genk striker sustained an injury during a preseason friendly against Azerbaijani side Araz Nakhchivan on July 17th and had to be substituted off. Trabzonspor lost the match 2-0.

Upon further tests, the Trabzon Health Board President, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Besir could confirm that the Nigerian has sustained an injury. “Due to the impact, intense edema was detected in Onuachu's left ankle bones and partial injury to his ankle ligaments. Our medical team has begun treatment for our player,” he announced, per abcgazetesi.

The club also announced in the report that the Nigerian striker is expected to be sidelined for up to four weeks, at which point Trabzonspor’s league season would have been underway.

Blow for Trabzonspor 

The 31-year-old only recently signed for Trabzonspor this summer from Southampton and has now suffered a major blow. He spent the 2023/24 season on loan at the Turkish club, where he scored 15 goals in 21 league appearances, and since then, Trabzonspor have been working hard to sign him permanently.

They finally landed him this summer but will now have to begin the season without him. and home, he wastes no time returning to full fitness when he eventually heals.
