Super Eagles star Nathan Tella outlines plans for success next season
Versatile Super Eagles player Nathan Tella has hinted that he hopes to get consistent running in forward positions this coming season.
The 26-year-old is originally a right-winger but has had to play in midfield and wing-back positions during his stint at Leverkusen.
He has struggled to nail a starting spot in his two seasons at the club and is looking forward to a successful season next term.
What Tella said
In an interview relayed by WerkselfXtra, Tella said he puts the team first and would play any position to support the collective goal. However, he expressed a desire to play in forward positions.
"I said a year ago that I've always enjoyed playing as an attacking player,” he said. “Of course, I play wherever the coach puts me and I help the team as best I can. But I know that I can do better as an attacker.
“We have big ambitions, and I hope I get the chance to prove myself as a winger. To do that, I have to give my all in training – and I will. What might give me an advantage is that I can play on both wings."
Tella is self-aware and noted that he had to improve his goal contributions. “I want to provide more assists and score more goals. I'm an attacker, and it's all about statistics.”
“It doesn't matter how well you play or how good you are at your job if you don't score goals or provide assists. I know I need to improve my goal involvement.”
