Speaking on Brila FM, Omokaro, a member of the 1988 AFCON silver-winning team, highlighted the stark contrast between the current squad and the teams of yesteryears.

He emphasized the strong sense of camaraderie and dedication prevalent in the past, stating, "There was a very big cooperation and cohesion in past Super Eagles teams."

"When you are invited, you must show that you can do it. We always had time to train together before the match proper; there was commitment back then," he added, per Complete Sports.

He stated, "They even invite players you’ve never heard of to the national team. It is pathetic."

Slim Chance for World Cup Qualification

Despite the current state of the team, Omokaro believes that qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup is still possible.

However, he stressed the importance of hard work, dedication, and a strong mentality.

"It's a slim chance (qualifying for the 2026 World Cup), but football is unpredictable. Victory requires a lot of sacrifice. If you don't work hard, it will not work out well."

The Super Eagles currently occupy the fifth position in their World Cup qualifying group and face crucial matches against Rwanda and Zimbabwe in March 2025.

Meanwhile, Pulse Sports previously reported that Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has found it hard to engineer a move away from Italy.
