Super Eagles first choice goalkeeper Uzoho and 2 others arrive AFCON Camp
Super Eagles number one goalkeeper Francis Uzoho has reported for duty at Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, camp in Abu Dhabi.
Pulse Sports Nigeria can confirm that Uzoho is one of the three latest arrivals to join the team, taking the number of players in camp to 22.
Uzoho joins Super Eagles
The 25-year-old has come under heavy criticism from fans and pundits for his recent performances in between the sticks for the national side.
However, Super Eagles manager, Jose Peseiro, who has come out several times to defend the shot-stopper, ignored calls to drop to name him in his 25-man squad for the AFCON.
Four days after the camp officially opened, Uzoho joined his teammates in the quest to bring back the AFCON title for the fourth time.
According to a post by the Super Eagles on their social media accounts, the Cyprus-based goalkeeper arrived on Wednesday alongside the duo of Umar Sadiq and Alhassan Yusuf, who is a late call-up as a replacement for Wilfred Ndidi.
Ndidi will be a big miss for the Nigeria Super Eagles after he was ruled out from Africa’s biggest football fiesta because of an unfortunate injury.
In his absence, Royal Antwerp youngster, Alhassan, gets a chance to impress the coaches and Nigerians.
Jose Peseiro and his Super Eagles will play their first game at the AFCON 2023 against Equatorial Guinea on January 14th.
