Super Eagles captain Ndidi back in training just one day after father’s passing
Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has shown remarkable strength after returning to Besiktas training just one day after the tragic death of his father, Sunday Ndidi.
The Nigerian midfielder lost his father in a fatal car crash on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, in what has been an emotionally devastating week for the 29-year-old.

According to reports, Sunday Ndidi was involved in a road accident in the Umunede area of Delta State and was rushed to a hospital in Agbor, where he later passed away from injuries sustained in the crash.
A former military officer, he played a key role in inspiring Wilfred Ndidi’s football career and his journey to becoming a leader for club and country.
Clearly shaken, Ndidi took to social media to share a deeply emotional message, revealing that he had spoken to his father just hours before the accident.
In his tribute,Ndidi reflected on their close bond, recalling memories such as dedicating his first national team goal celebration to him and referencing the famous “Papilo” dance in honour of Kanu Nwankwo, a celebration he had previously revealed was done for his father, a huge fan of the Nigerian legend.
Besiktas also confirmed the tragic news, offering their condolences in a public statement as did the NFF and NSC.
Ndidi shows strength by returning to Besiktas training
Despite the heartbreaking circumstances, Ndidi has already returned to training with Besiktas on January 28, just one day after his father’s passing. The Super Eagles skipper was spotted with his teammates as the Turkish giants prepare for their upcoming Super Lig clash against Konyaspor.
Besiktas are currently unbeaten in 11 matches and pushing strongly for a top-four finish and a place in European competition next season.
