Super Eagles 6-0 Sao Tome: Awoniyi gives thanks to God after 2nd goal for Nigeria
On Sunday, September 10, 2023, The Super Eagles of Nigeria recorded a comfortable 6-0 victory against the Parrots of Sao Tome and Principe in their final 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.
Akwa Ibom State governor Umo Eno made tickets free at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium which means the Super Eagles had a full-capacity crowd in Uyo .

When both sides met in Agadir Morocco, the Super Eagles recorded a 10-0 victory against Sao Tome and Principe but they were unable to match that tally in Uyo.
It ended up in a 6-0 scoreline for the Super Eagles, with three goals from Napoli man Victor Osimhen who was later accused of stat padding by some Nigerians.
Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi, Atlanta's Ademola Lookman, and AC Milan's Samuel Chukwueze were the other goal scorers
Awoniyi gives thanks to God for Super Eagles goal against Sao Tome
Awoniyi has been in fine form for Nottingham Forest in the Premier League and earned the starting line-up role along with Osimhen.
He scored the third goal for the Super Eagles through a volley that went viral on social media.
Awoniyi did not stay long after as he was substituted for Bayer Leverkusen target man Victor Boniface in the 64th minute.
After the game, Awoniyi took to his official social media platforms to celebrate his goal.
The striker who recently welcomed a baby gave thanks to God with his post.
He said, "He must increase,but I must decrease, despite all our flaws, he forever look after the affairs of his own.
"Always an honor 🇳🇬🦅"
Awoniyi now has two goals for the Super Eagles and is expected to be part of the team to the AFCON.
Awoniyi will now return to Nottingham Forest at the end of the international break as he aims to win the Premier League Player of the Month award.
