Stanbic Uganda Cup: Maroons dumped out, Villa and NEC sail to Round of 32
Uganda Premier League side Maroons FC were stunned and eliminated from the Stanbic Uganda Cup by the lowly ranked Busei FC after a 1-0 defeat.
Busei, thus, sailed through to the Round of 32 on an evening to remember at the Iganga Ssaza Grounds on Thursday.
The result came as a shock given Maroons' brilliant form in the Uganda Premier League, where they sit fourth with 28 points in 15 games.
In action elsewhere, nine-time champions SC Villa sailed through to the next round after a dominant 4-0 victory over SC Tawai.
Aslem Semakula, Elvis Ngonde, Abas Kyeyune and Charles Lwanga scored for the Jogoo to ease past Tawai.
On the other hand, NEC survived a scare to squeeze through to the next round after a 2-1 win over Northern Division FC.
Captain Marvin Kavuma and forward Brian Kayanja scored for the Army side on the evening.
Another UPL side, UPDF FC, got eliminated after a 1-0 defeat to Pajule Lions FC.
