South Africa left AFCON to join Ghana at home to watch Super Eagles win - Nigerians troll Bafana Bafana
Nigerian football fans have flooded social media with celebratory banter following South Africa’s elimination from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, using humour and rivalry to underline Nigeria’s continued presence in the tournament.
Cameroon sends South Africa packing
Cameroon secured their place in the AFCON 2025 quarter-finals after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over South Africa.
Despite a nervy start and a tense finish, the Indomitable Lions overcame an early scare to clinch the win. South Africa appeared to have taken an early lead, but their goal was disallowed for offside.

Cameroon weathered the initial pressure and broke the deadlock in the 34th minute through Junior Tchamadeu before Christian Kofane extended their advantage shortly after halftime.
Bafana Bafana staged a late rally, with Evidence Makgopa scoring in the 88th minute to ensure a frantic conclusion. However, David Pagou's side managed to hold on, securing their progression to face the Atlas Lions in the next round.
Nigerian fans react
After the game, Nigerian fans were sparked by a viral post on X (formerly Twitter) by user @_AsiwajuLerry., which boldly declared that South Africa had joined Ghana “at home to watch Nigeria win the tournament.”
