‘Sorry, we couldn’t take it all the way’ - Bassey sends message to Nigerians, thanks them for their support
The Super Eagles bowed out of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after losing in the semi-final of the competition.
The game ended goalless after 120 minutes, including extra time, with both teams needing a penalty shootout to determine the winner.
Morocco went on to seal a final place with a 4-2 victory after Yassine Bounou saved Samuel Chukwueze and Bruno Onyemaechi’s penalties.
Bassey’s message to Nigerians
Following the disappointing loss to Morocco in the 2025 AFCON competition, Bassey has sent a message to Nigerians.
The Super Eagles defender apologised for not going all the way to the final as they did in 2023, failing to make it a second final in a row.
He wrote on X, “We thank God in all situations. A gutting way to end the tournament. The support & togetherness we’ve felt has been special.
“Sorry we couldn’t take it all the way, we fought and gave it our all. We’ll build on this. Not finished yet though, we still have something to push for. 💚”
The Super Eagles players, despite hurting about the defeat, still have something to play for, with the bronze medal still up for grabs.
They now turn their attention to the third-place clash against Egypt, who also lost to Senegal, on Saturday.
