Shooting Stars to face NLO side Ilaji in Oyo FA Cup final
Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Shooting Stars will take on Nigeria League One (NLO) side Ilaji Football Club in the Oyo State's FA Cup final at the Lekan Salami Stadium.
Although the most successful team in the national competition with 8 titles, Shooting Stars have failed to emerge as Nigeria's Cup winners since 1995.
They will alongside Ilaji FC, represent Oyo State in the 2023 Federation Cup.
Shooting to play Ilaja in Oyo FA Cup final
To pick a ticket to the 2023 edition of Nigeria's Federation Cup, Ilaji humiliated Oyo-Alaafin United 4-1 in the semifinal of the state FA Cup on Tuesday.
Goals came from Salem Adeyemi who bagged a hat trick, with Favour Adegbite scoring the other for Ilaji to seal a 4-1 victory. Shittu Taiwo was the other name on the scoresheet, the only goal for Oyo Alaafin.
Shooting Stars on their part, showed their superiority in the other Oyo FA Cup semifinals as they walloped Iseyin Rocks 4-0.
Despite just returning from injury, Sikiru Alimi grabbed a brace in the 13th and 27th minutes of the game, while Joshua Akpan and Opeoluwa Olufemi scored one each to seal passage for the NPFL team.
Shooting Stars, Ilaja to rep Oyo in 2023 Federation Cup
Shooting Stars and Ilaja will meet in the final of the state cup this weekend, with the winner crowned as champion of Oyo State.
They will in April, play alongside 70 other teams who finished as their state champions and runner-ups, in the national competition.
The final of the 2023 Federation Cup will hold in May. The winner will represent Nigeria in next season's CAF Confederation Cup.
