SHAME - No 'world-class' hospital in Ogun State as Tunisian athletes are transferred to Lekki after ghastly accident
Tunisian athletes involved in a ghastly motor accident at the African U18/U20 Championships in Abeokuta have been transferred to a private hospital in Lekki as there were no world-class hospitals in Ogun State.
On Saturday, July 19, a vehicle transporting some members of the Tunisian delegation was involved in a road traffic accident en route to the Games Village.
According to reports, the vehicle, which was not traveling under the official safety protocol typically accompanied by security and support personnel, veered into trouble along the designated route.
By a stroke of fate, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, Governor of Ogun State, was commuting nearby and immediately intervened, offering first-response assistance at the scene.
The injured athletes were quickly taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Abeokuta, where they received emergency care before being transferred to a specialized facility for further treatment.
Sadly, new reports confirm the affected athletes, five in number—one male and four females—have now been transferred to a specialized medical facility in Lekki, showing the severity of the situation.
The AFN media committee confirmed the relocation in a statement circulated on WhatsApp, assuring that the move was made to fully support their swift recovery, and all five athletes are responding positively to treatment.

Despite the positive outlook, it begs the question of why there are no world-class hospitals in Ogun State that could treat them to full recovery, and yet, an international competition was staged there.
