Sergio Ramos has turned down a surprise return to Paris that would have seen him link up with Super Eagles winger Moses Simon at Paris FC.

The veteran defender is instead prioritising visibility as he weighs up the next move of his storied career.

Paris FC make move for veteran leader

Paris FC had identified Ramos as a marquee addition capable of transforming both their defence and their profile following promotion to Ligue 1.

According to Foot Mercato, the Arnault-owned club sounded out the former Real Madrid and PSG centre-back as they look to inject leadership and experience into a squad currently sitting 14th in the table.

Ramos, now 39, is a free agent after the end of the Mexican championship, having spent the last season on a one-year deal with Monterrey.

For Paris FC, the appeal was obvious. Ramos’ pedigree as a World Cup winner and multiple-time Champions League victor would have brought instant credibility, while his presence alongside Nigeria international Moses Simon promised added star power.

Club officials reportedly viewed him as a natural leader who could organise a leaky defence and attract wider attention to the club’s ambitious Ligue 1 project.

Ramos prioritises visibility over Paris return

Despite being open to a return to Europe and even Ligue 1, Ramos has decided that Paris FC is not the right destination at this stage of his career.

Foot Mercato reports that the former PSG defender rejected the move because he is seeking a club with greater visibility and competitive stature.

Ramos previously spent two seasons at Paris Saint-Germain between 2021 and 2023 after leaving Real Madrid, making the prospect of another stint in the French capital intriguing but ultimately unconvincing.

While OGC Nice were also loosely linked with the Spaniard, those rumours were firmly dismissed by club president Jean-Pierre Rivère.

For now, Ramos remains without a club, carefully weighing options that match both his ambitions and global profile, even if it means passing up a chance to play alongside one of Nigeria’s biggest stars.
