Semi Ajayi thanks West Brom for 6 years: Super Eagles star announces departure ahead of Unity Cup
Semi Ajayi, a departing defender for Albion, confirmed his departure next month and gave the team's supporters an emotional farewell.
After six years at The Hawthorns, where he made 177 appearances and won a promotion in his rookie season, the 31-year-old Nigerian international defender will be leaving.
Along with John Swift and Grady Diangana, Ajayi was one of three senior first-team players who were confirmed to be leaving Albion at the conclusion of their agreements.
Former Charlton and Arsenal player Ajayi scored 13 goals for the team and mentioned a thrilling comeback victory at Peterborough in August 2021, just after the team was demoted.
Semi Ajayi on West Ham departure
Despite being frustrated by injuries and not always being chosen as a regular starter, he stayed a reliable member of the Baggies' team.
Ajayi mentioned in an Instagram post how he was welcomed by the team after leaving Rotherham United in 2019 for £1.5 million.
On Instagram he wrote, "Thank you to everyone connected with @WBA for an incredible six years.
"To the staff, my teammates, and the fans — thank you for accepting me and embracing me in a way that truly made me feel at home.
"I’ll never forget the special bonds and memories we’ve built since I joined the club.
"From the incredible promotion season in my first year, to the unforgettable scenes at Peterborough away in front of our amazing fans — and, of course, scoring in that Black Country derby win! 🔵⚪️
"West Bromwich Albion will always hold a special place in my heart, and the memories we’ve shared will stay with me for a lifetime.
"I sincerely wish everyone connected to the club all the very best for the future.
"Until we meet again 🙏🏾💙 S.A."
Ajayi's departure comes ahead of inclusion in the Super Eagles of Nigeria list ahead of the Unity Cup.
