During the summer transfer window of 2023, the Super Eagles player left Villarreal CF to join the Italian powerhouse, ending a fruitful six-year stint in Spain.

However, the Nigerian winger made only 24 appearances under Pioli's direction, providing just three assists and one goal.

Chukwueze speaks on poor form

Chukwueze found it difficult to maintain his form in Milan, in contrast to his exceptional displays while playing a pivotal role for Villarreal.

The winger blamed his poor form on arriving at the club late and not being able to persuade Pioli of his potential.

According to Milan Matters on X, Chukwueze said, “I arrived late, at the end of July. It was a bit difficult to convince him; the player in my position was scoring goals. I had a good relationship with Pioli; he’s a fantastic guy and a great coach.”

In his debut season, Chukwueze struggled to establish a consistent starting slot despite his best efforts; Pioli frequently chose to use Christian Pulisic in his preferred position.

Chukwueze, however, has seen a comeback since Paulo Fonseca took over as manager of San Siro.

The forward has been in exceptional form in the preseason, having provided two assists against Manchester City and scored the winning goal against Real Madrid.

The winger has also promised fans to expect a different Chukwueze in the upcoming season as they aim for the Scudetto.
