Fenerbahce have reportedly stepped up efforts to land Nigerian winger Ademola Lookman in the January transfer window.

The proposed move could see the Atalanta star become a direct rival to Super Eagles teammate Victor Osimhen in the Turkish Super Lig.

Fenerbahce open talks with Atalanta for Lookman

According to Turkish media, Fenerbahce have initiated formal discussions with Atalanta over the possible transfer of Lookman, tabling an opening bid of around €25 million.

The Istanbul giants are keen to bolster their attacking options as they push for domestic success, but negotiations remain ongoing after Atalanta responded by demanding closer to €40 million for the 28-year-old.

Reports from Turkish daily Sabah suggest talks are progressing positively, with both clubs working toward a potential compromise. Lookman himself is said to be open to the move and views Fenerbahce as a credible next step in his career, particularly given the club’s ambition and regular involvement in European competition.

The winger has endured a difficult start to the season in Italy, managing three goals and one assist in 16 appearances. A strained relationship with former Atalanta coach Ivan Juric reportedly limited his minutes and disrupted his rhythm, prompting speculation over a possible January exit.

Osimhen consulted as Super Lig rivalry looms

As part of his decision-making process, Lookman reportedly sought advice from Nigeria teammate Victor Osimhen, who currently plays for Fenerbahce’s fierce rivals Galatasaray.

He is understood to have asked about life in Türkiye, the intensity of the Super Lig and the pressures of playing in Istanbul’s intense football environment.

Lookman also reportedly reached out to former Everton teammate Cenk Tosun, who provided positive feedback on both the league and Fenerbahce’s structure. Those conversations appear to have strengthened the player’s openness to the move.

Should Fenerbahce secure his signature, Lookman would not only become a key attacking weapon for the Yellow Canaries but also a direct league rival to Osimhen, setting up a compelling Super Eagles subplot in Türkey’s title race.
