Record-breaking player of Nigerian-descent reveals big statement on Super Eagles future
Freiburg goalkeeper Atubolu set a new club record by not conceding a goal for 510 minutes during Saturday's 0-0 draw against RB Leipzig.
This achievement surpasses the previous record of 500 minutes, set by Richard Golz in the 2001-2002 season.
The 22-year-old hasn't conceded a goal since January 25 against Bayern Munich, giving him the fifth-longest clean sheet streak in Bundesliga history.
Atubolu’s statement
Following his record-breaking achievement on Saturday, Atubolu revealed his aspiration to play for the German national team, Die Mannschaft, in an interview with Sky Germany.
The promising goalkeeper, Atubolu, born to a German mother and Nigerian father, can represent both the Super Eagles and Nigeria. He has caught the eye of the Nigeria Football Federation.
As Germany's March international matches against Italy draw near, manager Julian Nagelsmann is monitoring Nigerian prospects, including Freiburg goalkeeper Noah Atubolu and Eintracht Frankfurt's centre-back Nnamdi Collins.
Since his debut in a European Championship qualifier against Latvia in March 2022, Atubolu has played in fifteen games for the U21 squad.
He has also earned caps for his country of birth at the U17, U19, and U20 levels, and has played in fifteen games for the U21 squad.
