Record breaker! Lionel Messi makes history as Argentina thrash Puerto Rico 6-0
Lionel Messi broke yet another major international record, surpassing Neymar to become the all-time international assists leader with 60, following a stellar display in Argentina’s dominant 6-0 friendly win against Puerto Rico.
After sitting out the match against Venezuela last week, the Inter Miami star was imperious for the entire ninety minutes at the Chase Stadium.
The 38-year-old registered his record-setting 60th assist with a lovely dinked pass to set up Gonzalo Montiel. He then followed that up with an exquisite back-heel to set up Lautaro Martinez’s winner.

Braces from Alexis Mac Allister and Martinez, along with Steven Echevarria’s own goal, steered Argentina to the emphatic victory.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner continues to defy age with his relentless output. He is only two assists shy of reaching the 400-assist mark in his professional career.
The 2022 World Cup winner has been unstoppable for Inter Miami this season, bagging 26 goals and 15 assists in Major League Soccer, contributing to his tally of 68 goals and 31 assists in 81 games for the Herons.
Messi is also the second all-time international top scorer with 114 goals, only behind his arch-rival Cristiano Ronaldo (143 goals).
