Rashford gives up ₦14 billion to seal Barcelona move

Marcus Rashford has reportedly taken a massive pay cut to join Barcelona on loan from Manchester United.

The deal includes an option to buy and makes Rashford Barça’s third signing of the summer, following Joan Garcia and Mikayil Faye.

Rashford made it clear he had no interest in offers from other clubs, including Juventus, he wanted Barcelona and no one else.

With Liverpool pricing Luis Diaz out of a move, Barça pivoted swiftly and struck an agreement with Manchester United.

The 27-year-old will arrive on a one-year loan, with an option to make the move permanent in 2026. He is set for medicals in Catalonia and will join Hansi Flick’s squad for their pre-season tour in Asia.

Barcelona are still working on registering new players, but Rashford’s financial gesture is helping ease that burden.

According to reports, Rashford was earning €18 million annually at Man United. But to facilitate his move and registration, the England forward has agreed to reduce his salary by 30%.

As a result, Barcelona will now pay him around €10 million for the season, roughly ₦14 billion less than he would have earned.

Barcelona will cover 100% of his wages, a key condition that made United agree to the deal. Work remains for La Liga registration rules to be met, but Rashford’s sacrifice and commitment to joining Barça have given the Catalans much-needed breathing space.

With the season kickoff fast approaching, Barcelona must now move quickly to offload players and ensure Rashford can feature from matchday one.
