Lionel Messi is approaching the end of his two-year deal with PSG and despite reports last December that the Argentine superstar was leaning towards renewing, that prospect now seems unlikely.
PSG reportedly losing Messi to Barcelona
According to 90min, the Parisians have accepted that Messi is unlikely to extend his contract in the French capital. The report also adds that former club Barcelona are set to hold further discussions with Messi’s father.
Barcelona have been vocal about their desire to pursue a sensational reunion with the 35-year-old and cub vice-president Rafa Yuste confirmed the club’s interest last week.
"Leo and his family know the affection I have for them," he said to SPORT.

"I participated in the negotiations that unfortunately did not lead to success.
"I'm gutted that Leo could not continue at our club. If you talk about La Masia, you talk about Messi. Of course, I would love to see him come back, for what it could represent at a sporting, social, and economic level.
"I think the fans too because beautiful stories in life have to have a happy ending. And we are in love with Messi and I think Messi is in love with Barça and the city of Barcelona. We are in contact with them, yes."
Big picture
Latest reports suggest, Messi’s father and agent, Jorge Messi will fly to Barcelona within the next week to accelerate plans for a free transfer back to Catalonia.
While the finances involved may be a major sticking point, it is believed both parties would love to get this done.
MLS club Inter Miami and clubs in Saudi Arabia are still pursuing Messi, with lucrative offers in the works to tempt him to leave Europe.
