Newly-promoted Leeds United have smashed their transfer record to secure the services of Swiss striker Noah Okafor from AC Milan.
The deal, reportedly worth £18m, has not only marked a statement of intent from the Elland Road side but has also pushed Premier League spending this summer to a new, unprecedented high.
The transfer window's total outlay has now reached a staggering £2.37bn, according to data from Football Transfers, officially surpassing the previous record set in 2023.
Okafor set to bolster Leeds attack as Premier League side break their transfer record
The signing of Okafor is not just a story about one player; it's a testament to the financial power of the Premier League.
This summer has seen a remarkable six clubs break their individual transfer records, contributing to the record-breaking total.
The influx of new talent suggests a shift in strategy for many teams as they look to strengthen their squads.
The Swiss international, who has a tendency to stay high and wide and averaged a notable 4.2 dribbles per 90 minutes last season, fits the profile of a modern, dynamic forward.
“I dreamed of playing in the Premier League”
For 25-year-old striker of Nigerian descent, the transfer represents the fulfilment of a long-held dream.
"As a kid, I dreamed of playing in the Premier League. That's why for me it was quite an easy decision," the forward told LUTV upon signing his four-year deal.

He added“I think it's an amazing day, I'm really excited.
He added: “So I said, yeah, my football suits the Premier League, this is like a dream come true. I can't wait to step on the field.
“I heard that the Premier League is the best league in the world, it's so intense. I have loads of friends that played there or are playing there.
“I'm really, really excited. I can't wait, like I said before. I'm also ready for this new challenge.”
His arrival makes him the ninth summer signing for Leeds, as the club looks to build a squad capable of competing at the top level after their promotion from the Championship.
While his time at AC Milan was limited, with just seven goals in 54 appearances, his pre-season performance against Liverpool, where he scored twice, showed glimpses of his potential.
