'Potter In, Potter Out' - Mixed Reactions as relentless Manchester City boot 'toothless' Chelsea out of FA Cup
Chelsea travelled to the Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City in the Third round of the English FA Cup on Sunday evening, January 8, 2023.
The Blues were looking to bounce back from their loss against the Cityzens on Thursday when they faced the high-flying Premier League champions.
However, Graham Potter’s men were outplayed in the opening 20 minutes, failing to register a single shot on target.
The hosts soon opened the scoring after a spectacular free-kick from Riyad Mahrez in the 23rd minute put Man City 1-0 up.
The Blues tried to fight back in order to restore parity but soon found themselves in trouble once more after VAR adjudged Kai Havertz to have handled the ball in his own box in the 29th minute.
Referee Robert Jones pointed to the spot after the check and Julian Alvarez stepped up and fired past Kepa Arrizabalaga who nearly looked to have saved his effort a minute later.
Things continued to go from bad to worse as the Londoners looked exhausted and out of their depth as Man City found cause to jubilate again after Phil Foden fired home for City’s third of the match in the 38th minute.
City went into the break at half-time with all the advantage leaving with Chelsea lots to do ahead of the second period.
Second Half
The second period was more of the same with City continuing their dominance.
Chelsea never looked like scoring as City continue to impress with neat passages of play.
The Cityzens were able to stretch their lead again after Kalidou Koulibaly brought down Phil Foden in the box to gift the hosts another goalscoring opportunity in the 84th minute.
Riyad Mahrez stepped up a minute later and made no mistake past the helpless Kepa for City’s fourth of the evening.
Mahrez’s penalty was the last real action as Manchester City demolished Chelsea 4-0 at the the Etihad in a largely one-sided contest, eliminating the Londoners from the FA Cup this season.
Social Media Reactions
Following the disappointing result for Chelsea, Blues fans have taken to social media to express their frustrations with their coach as well as their team.
Here are some top reactions below
It will heartless to sack Graham Potter & make him jobless.

He has a family ❤️
Chelsea are unwatchable. Kai Havertz has been abysmal and conceding the penalty sums it up. No shape, no system. Not sure how Potter has set this team up today. He’s going to have more ‘stupid’ questions to answer.

It’s results like this that make it hard to accept Todd Boehly’s decision to sack Tuchel. Do feel for Potter, was brought into a mess

Makes no sense sacking Potter, he still deserves next season in my opinion. But still, he needs to get his head together and not crack.

As for Boehly, if you have players like Enzo and Gvardiol STILL wanting us in this state shut up and pay the damn money.
~ The players look clueless

Potter looks so clueless.
Nothing is working in & for this team now - The players are so so so mid AF.
Potter is obviously in a tough spot with all the injuries but the way this team is playing, I'd honestly be worried to even face a Championship side right now. . .

Potter has got to axe the players Lampard has mostly identified needing phasing out. They aren’t providing the “experience” they should and limiting any progression. Also would send a firm message over direction of club.
