Percy Tau: African Giants Hit Dead End in Attempt to Sign South African Forward
South African forward Percy Tau might not return to Africa any time soon after all despite reports linking him with a move back to North Africa.
Tau just completed the season with Qatari outfit Qatar SC but his future is still a subject of speculation as his contract was to run until the end of the season although there was an option to extend if he impressed.
However, with four assists and no goals in nine games, it has been deemed that he has not had a great spell since joining in January from Egyptian giants Al Ahly with reports saying Qatar SC might look to offload him.
That had given other suitors hope and among clubs that are interested in Tau is Egyptian heavyweights Zamalek, Al Ahly’s bitter rivals, who have a desire for him to replace Al Ahly-bound Ahmed Sayed.
However, according to South African outlet Soccer Laduma, reports in Qatar say Tau has demanded an annual salary of $1.4 million to join Zamalek, an amount the Egyptian club are not willing to pay.
Zamalek find the demand too expensive while Tau, who was on a reported $1.2 million per year at Al Ahly, has no desire to lower his asking price, leading to a standoff.
That leaves a potential move back to Egypt in limbo with Tau now waiting to see what Qatar SC have to say over his future before making his next move.
