Manchester United’s euphoric 3-2 victory over Arsenal has been soured by the news that breakout star Patrick Dorgu is set for a significant spell on the sidelines.

The 21-year-old sustained the injury while chasing a long ball in the second half of the win at the Emirates, in which he scored a half-volley from just outside the box.

Dorgu ruled out for up to 10 weeks with injury

The timing is particularly painful for both player and club. Since Michael Carrick’s arrival, Dorgu has been a revelation, moving from the wing-back role he occupied under Ruben Amorim to a more advanced attacking position.

With Dorgu expected to miss at least 10 weeks, he would be unavailable for the club’s next eight matches, putting him in line for a return after March’s international break, with United taking on Leeds United on April 11.

Carrick said in his press conference after the Arsenal game that he hoped that the injury was not too serious and Dorgu had “hopefully” come off with cramp.

Furthermore, the injury rules him out of Denmark’s crucial World Cup Playoff against North Macedonia in March.

Dorgu joins centre-back Matthijs de Ligt on the sidelines, who has missed the last 11 games with a back issue sustained in early December.
