Own goal specialists: Esteve joins Liverpool legend Carragher in unwanted Premier League history book

Burnley defender Maxime Esteve has written his name into an unenviable corner of Premier League history, joining a short and infamous list of players who have scored two own goals in a single match.

The 23-year-old Frenchman's costly blunders against Manchester City put him alongside Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher and other notable names in a record no player ever wants to set.

Esteve’s disastrous afternoon unfolded during Burnley's 5-1 defeat at the Etihad Stadium, a match that also saw Erling Haaland net two goals.

His first own goal came in the 12th minute, when a shot from Jeremy Doku ricocheted off him and into the net.

The second came late in the match, when a shot from City substitute Oscar Bobb once again deflected off Esteve and into his own net, sealing his place in the record books.

Esteve became only the sixth player in Premier League history to suffer this fate. The list of shame includes:
