‘Our fans are easy to please’ — Manchester United's Amorim gloats after Chelsea win
Ruben Amorim hailed Manchester United’s supporters after his side edged past Chelsea 2-1 at Old Trafford, admitting the fans were key in helping the team over the line.
The under-pressure boss also revealed the simple formula needed to keep the fans in the stadium happy.
Amorim praises Old Trafford crowd after fiery clash
Speaking after the win, Amorim praised for the supporters who roared his side on throughout the second half against Chelsea at Old Trafford.
“Our crowd, our fans are easy to please. If you give everything they will be there,” he said stressing that commitment, running, and tackling were enough to keep the fans onside, adding that the energy from the stands pushed United over the line against Chelsea.
Amorim admitted his side sat back under pressure late on but insisted the players fully deserved the victory.
For Amorim, who has been fighting to convince doubters since his arrival, the noise at Old Trafford offered reassurance that he still has backing in Manchester.
Manchester United beat Chelsea to give Amorim hope
The game itself was packed with drama from the first whistle. Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez was dismissed after just five minutes for a reckless challenge on Bryan Mbeumo, leaving the visitors shorthanded.
Manchester United pounced quickly with the advantage, with captain Bruno Fernandes notching his 100th goal for the club before Casemiro powered home a header to make it 2-0.
Casemiro’s dismissal just before halftime changed the flow, however, and Trevoh Chalobah’s late goal for Chelsea set up a nervy finish.
Still, the Red Devils held firm, recording back-to-back home wins for the first time under Amorim and handing Chelsea their first league defeat of the campaign.
