Osimhen’s teammate, Icardi, hails Galatasaray for the signing of the Nigerian star
Icardi, who joined the Istanbul giants in 2022 and was instrumental in their return to Turkish Super Lig glory, believes the club has transformed its fortunes in recent years.
The signing of top-tier talent, including the 2023 CAF Player of the Year Osimhen for a reported club-record fee, underscores this progress.
Since the signing of the Super Eagles star, he has been their most influential player and his presence has helped the team scale through some games.
Icardi speaks on Osimhen’s signing
Speaking in a press conference, Icardi reflected on the club's evolution since his arrival. "This will be my fourth year at Galatasaray.
"When I first arrived, the club was in a difficult situation. Today, everything has turned around," the 32-year-old stated, according to the club's official website.
He credited a collective effort from the management, coaching staff, and players for elevating the club's status on the European stage.
"We have built a much better club in recent years," Icardi explained. "The technical team, players, management, the president, and everyone here has worked to develop the club, and we are now at the point where we are.
“We're one of the best clubs in Europe right now, and we are showing this in the Champions League."
The former Inter Milan and PSG star pointed to recent high-profile transfers as proof of Galatasaray's newfound pulling power.
"Transfers were made, such as Victor [Osimhen], which was previously unthinkable and thought to be too expensive," he noted.
"We’ve been able to bring in very high-level players like Davinson [Sánchez]. Today, many players want to come to Turkey."
