Osimhen Curse? Napoli looking for new striker after Lukaku news
Italian Serie A champions Napoli are set to enter the transfer market for a new striker after it was reported that Romelu Lukaku would be out for a significant period.
Napoli looking for a new striker after Lukaku's injury
The Neapolitans appeared to be settled in the attacking department after adding Lorenzo Lucca from Udinese to join Lukaku, but the Belgian has now suffered a muscle injury that would keep him out for three months.
Following the news, the Serie A champions are now searching the market for a striker who would hold the fort until Lukaku returns to full fitness.
Osimhen's exit makes Napoli light in attack
It remains to be seen who they bring in, but Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen would have been an ideal candidate.
However, Osimhen is no longer at the club after joining Galatasaray permanently in a €75m deal this summer.
The Nigerian international left the club unceremoniously despite leading them to their first league title in 33 years in the 2022/2023 season.
With Osimhen out and Lukaku injured, the Neapolitans are short in the attacking department, leaving them with no option but to enter the transfer market.
Giacomo Raspadori would also have been another option to fill in for Lukaku, but the Italian international was sold to Atletico Madrid this summer.
Whatever happens, though, Napoli will go into their 2024/2025 Serie A opener against Sassuolo with Lucca, Walid Cheddira, and Giuseppe Ambrosino as their centre-forward options.
