Onome Ebi: 40-year-old Nigerian defender locks comment section to reveal new club
Nigeria international Onome Ebi has finally found a new club, putting an end to her year-long search for a new home.
But Onome’s announcement came with an unexpected twist as she locked her fans out of the celebration.
The 40-year-old veteran Super Falcons defender, who recently attended the ninth FIFA Women’s World Cup, FIFAWWC, unattached, has joined Nigeria Women’s Football League, NWFL, side Naija Ratels.
Onome reveals new club
Onome’s journey to this point began after her contract with Spanish side Levante Las Planas expired in the summer of 2022.
Despite her free agent status, she managed to make it to the global showpiece, the FIFAWWC, co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia.
Onome plated two matches, including the shock win against co-hosts, Australia and the round of 16 battle against European champions, England.
However, it took a full year for her to secure a new club, culminating in her signing with Naija Ratels.
In a post on her official X.com account, the experienced defender announced her move to Ratels, saying, “Mama Onome, Naija Ratels.”

Super Falcon locks account
The club reveal, however, was not without its quirks, as Onome seemed to take a swipe at her critics and those who have questioned her continued involvement with the Super Falcons.
In response to the ongoing scrutiny, she chose to lock her comment section to prevent any feedback or reactions to her club announcement.
Her latest move, Pulse Sports can say may be connected to controversies surrounding her recent invitation to the national Women’s team, the Falcons, as reported by Pulse Sports.
With her move to Naija Ratels, Onome Ebi has embarked on a new chapter in her football career and her decision to silence her critics adds an intriguing twist to the story.
