Omanyala storms to 9.78s to claim 100m victory at Botswana Golden Grand Prix

Africa's fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala stormed to a blistering time of 9.78s (2.3) to win the men's 100m at the Botswana Golden Grand Prix.

Omanyala defeated homeboy and World U20 Record holder Letsile Tebogo, who came second in 9.91s, while USA's world medallist Kenny Bednarek was third in 10.02s.

The Kenyan speedster had a fantastic start, making it difficult for the rest of the field to catch up with him. Though Tebogo tried to push through, closely behind him halfway down the line, Omanyala's strength was overwhelming as he sped to the finish line.

The African and Commonwealth Champion stays undefeated in his outdoor races this season, having a Season Best (SB) of 10.05s clocked at the ASA Grand Prix two weeks ago.

Also, his 9.78s is the fastest all-conditions time in the world this year, which makes a bold claim of his intentions of dominating the 100m event this season.

Omanyala already stated that he has his goals set on winning the Diamond League men's 100m title and becoming the world champion in Budapest.

If he continues at this rate, his dreams may eventually become a reality.

World 4x100m champion Twanisha Terry had to dig deep to win the women's event in 11.05s (0.4), ahead of Egypt's Hemida Basant in 11.09s.

Terry had the best start in the field, holding off the strong challenge from Basant, who challenged her to the finish line.

They were far ahead of Kiara Grant in third place, who clocked 11.16s, and Javianna Oliver in 11.40s.

It's Terry's first win of the year, one she'll hope to build on for the rest of the season.
