Ogunneye has developed through United’s academy ranks, impressing in the Premier League 2, EFL Trophy, UEFA Youth League, and the FA Youth Cup.

His strong performances in these competitions, alongside appearances for England’s youth teams, earned him a first senior Manchester United call-up on 28 February 2024, when then-manager Erik ten Hag named him on the bench for an Emirates FA Cup fifth-round clash against Nottingham Forest.

He would make additional matchday squad appearances but is yet to debut in a senior competitive match for the Red Devils.

The London-born defender did, however, feature in last summer’s pre-season friendly against Rosenborg in Norway, offering a glimpse of his potential at senior level per the club’s website.

At Newport County, Ogunneye will reunite with Dave Hughes, former Manchester United Under-21s assistant manager, who recently joined the League Two club’s coaching staff.

The loan spell is expected to grant Ogunneye much-needed first-team action and aid his development as he continues under the supervision of a familiar face.
