‘I gotta go f**k this guy’ — 4-time NFL MVP claims actress ex-wife’s made strange demand before marriage
NFL superstar Aaron Rodgers has opened up about his broken engagement to actress Shailene Woodley, claiming she made a startling demand shortly after accepting his marriage proposal.
Speaking on Not Just Football with Cam Heyward, the four-time NFL MVP rejected claims that he was responsible for the collapse of their relationship and offered his version of events.
Rodgers disputes Woodley breakup narrative
Rodgers and Woodley announced their engagement in February 2021 after he had proposed in December 2020. However, according to Rodgers, their relationship began falling apart soon afterwards.
“I proposed [to Shailene] and she said yes. Now, she maybe felt like she was forced to make a decision. She could have said no.”
Rodgers then made a striking claim about what happened days later, saying, “A couple days after that she tells me, ‘Before we get married, I gotta go f**k this guy,’ and I’m like — because her story is that I ruined her life and gave her crazy depression because I left her,” Rodgers claimed.

He said Woodley removed her engagement ring by March and that attempts to reconcile later in 2021 failed.
“There wasn’t even a relationship in 2022 to break off,” Rodgers said before adding: “She literally told me, ‘I don’t want to be with you’ after we tried some reconciliation in 2021. There’s just a lot of narrative out there that isn’t true.”
NFL star also addresses Danica Patrick split
Rodgers also discussed his previous relationship with NASCAR driver Danica Patrick, claiming their relationship had already deteriorated before their eventual split. He said Patrick was struggling emotionally after retirement and that he remained in the relationship because he wanted to support her.
“There was no intimacy. There was nothing. And I’m buying a house in Malibu and she goes, ‘Would you want to buy it together?,’ and I said no.”
Patrick has previously portrayed the breakup differently, according to Rodgers, who disputed her account that she was blindsided.
Woodley has rarely discussed their relationship publicly. In an interview with Outside magazine, she described it as painful but meaningful, saying: “It was not right. But it was beautiful.”
She also revealed that she experienced severe depression and anxiety after what she described as an “awful, traumatic thing” in early 2022, adding that she had stayed in a “toxic situation” out of empathy for someone else.
