Ogun k*ll am — Oshoala addresses retirement rumours
Super Falcons legend Asisat Oshoala reacted through social media after reports came out in the past few days that she had announced her retirement from the squad.
The retirement rumours
Oshoala was a controversial addition to the WAFCON squad, given her limited playtime at Bay FC. She came under more scrutiny after her poor showing in the competition’s opener against Tunisia, with fans clamouring for the likes of Esther Okoronkwo to replace her in the starting lineup.
Justin Madugu stuck with the former Barcelona star for the second game against Botswana, but she has been limited to substitute appearances since.
Oshoala was unused against Algeria and played less than 20 minutes in the quarter-final triumph over Zambia. Ahead of the match against South Africa, reports claiming that she informed members of the team that she would be calling time on her national team career at the end of the WAFCON emanated.
Oshoala’s response
The reports of Oshoala's retirement have been largely debunked by journalists on the ground. The player herself now has her say on the matter.
Employing a meme to communicate her message, as is on brand, Oshoala posted a picture of a man wrestling a cow, seemingly depicting her fury at the unfoundedness of the claim. She accompanied the picture with a caption that read, “D day I catch that journalist… Ogun k*ll am.”

The 30-year-old has registered 61 caps for Nigeria, in which she won a remarkable four WAFCON titles. She is gunning for her 5th in Morocco, which would account for half the number of titles the Falcons have won.
