This followed a spell of talks between the coach and the Red Eagles before the two parties agreed on an extension.

"It's true, I have signed a new contract," Isabirye confirmed to Pulse Sports Uganda in a brief interview.

The tactician did not reveal the duration of the contract as he had other engagements at the time of the brief call.

An X handle in his name had initially stated: "Today, the 12th of January 2024, I officially put pen to paper as Express FC head coach on a permanent deal."

Isabirye joined the Red Eagles last month on a one-month contract, taking over from James Odoch, who was shown the exit door by the club.

He has since turned the club's fortunes around, winning each of the last four Uganda Premier League games as Express head coach.

After losing his first two games, he has beaten NEC FC (5-2), Vipers SC (2-0), Arua Hill SC (1-0) and Gadaffi FC (3-0), an impressive return.

Isabirye won the domestic double of the Uganda Premier League and the Uganda Cup last season with Vipers SC.

That was before he exited the club under unclear circumstances towards the start of the 2023/24 campaign.
