Oblique Seville and Tina Clayton Feted in Jamaica for Emulating Usain Bolt and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce
World 100m champion Oblique Seville and sprint sensation Tina Clayton were named the National Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year for 2025 during the 65th National Awards ceremony in Jamaica at the weekend.
The 24-year-old Seville secured his first Sportsman of the Year title following a stellar season. He claimed the 2025 World Championship 100m gold with a blistering personal best of 9.77 seconds, returning Jamaica to the pinnacle of men's global sprinting for the first time since Usain Bolt's double victory at the 2016 Olympic Games.
Seville was selected over Anthony Johnson, who made history by winning Jamaica's first-ever gold medal at the International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) Handgun World Championship in the Production Optics – Grand Senior category, achieving a perfect 100 percent score.
In the women's category, Tina Clayton, a two-time World Under-20 100m champion, has successfully transitioned to the senior level. Her World 100m Championships silver medal signals her readiness to carry the torch from Jamaican sprinting legends Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Elaine Thompson-Herah, and Shericka Jackson.
Who Else Was Feted?
Her twin sister, Tia Clayton, is considered her main rival, leading Fraser-Pryce to nickname them the "Twin Turbo."
The runner-up for the Sportswoman of the Year award was Sara Misir, who earned a bronze medal in powerboating at the 2025 E1 Series Championship with Team Blue Rising. Misir also received the inaugural Breakthrough Athlete of the Year award, a new addition to the ceremony.
Several other distinguished figures were recognized during the event. The late Alvin Campbell was posthumously given the Chairman’s Award, while cricket icon Christopher Gayle received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his extraordinary, record-breaking career.
The People’s Choice Performance of the Year award went to I Dream Again, the winner of the prestigious horse racing Derby.
