Nwabali, who rose to prominence with his impressive performances for Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, recently parted ways with South African side Chippa United by mutual consent following the January transfer window.

What Etafia said

Speaking in an interview with Brila, Etafia disclosed that the 29-year-old had several offers during the AFCON tournament but was unable to complete a transfer due to a lack of agreement with his club.

He said, "When I spoke to him, he told me he had a lot of offers when AFCON was on. He needed to go, but there was no agreement with the club.

“He came back and felt like he needed to play or go. Don’t forget, Dumisani Msibi was doing well in his absence. At the same time, he decided what he wanted, the club and he came to an agreement, and he moved on.

“He is doing fine. He wanted to keep fit, thinking about the camp because he isn't among the invitees,” Etafia noted.

Since making his debut on July 4, 2021, in an international friendly against Mexico in Los Angeles, USA, Nwabali has established himself as a reliable figure for the Super Eagles.

He has featured in two AFCON tournaments, helping Nigeria secure a bronze medal in 2025 and a silver medal in the 2023 edition.
