NPFL: Remo Stars to begin title defence against former Super Eagles coach

Remo Stars, the defending champions of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), will host former Super Eagles coach, Finidi George, in the opening games of 2025/2026 football season.

The draws were unveiled during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Abuja, with all 20 club representatives present.

Both Remo Stars and Rivers United will feature in the 2025/26 CAF Champions League, representing Nigeria on the continent.

Remo Stars, who have steadily risen in Nigerian football’s pecking order, winning their first NPFL title last season, will count on their home support, while Rivers United, who finished second, will begin their title hunt against the Sky Blue Boys.

Abia Warriors, representing Nigeria in continental competition for the first time in their history, will begin their campaign at their temporary home in Ilorin against Kano Pillars.

Meanwhile, newly promoted Barau FC face a stern test as they welcome nine-time champions Enyimba.

Kun Khalifa, another promoted side, will travel to face former champions Enugu Rangers in what promises to be a baptism of fire in the famous Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.

Elsewhere, Ikorodu City, having made a remarkable debut last season, will face Kwara United.
