Ademola Lookman has acknowledged the significant mental and physical strain the defeat to Morocco placed on the Super Eagles squad.
Eric Chelle's men were below their usual level and succumbed to the pain of being dumped out on penalties.
Ademola Lookman heartbroken by Morocco defeat
"It was a tough game. We played 120 minutes. Difficult game, but obviously to lose on penalties is even more difficult," Lookman stated, reflecting on the challenge his team faced in Rabat.
The Atalanta forward credited the strength of the Moroccan team, noting they were a formidable opponent that pushed the game to its limit.
"I think a strong team. At the end of the day, it went to penalties," he added, highlighting how closely contested the match was before being decided from the spot.
When asked about the upcoming third-place playoff against Egypt, Lookman admitted the team was still processing the semi-final heartbreak and had not yet turned their attention to the next fixture.
"To be honest, not really thinking about, not really thought about that," he said. "Obviously, because of the disappointment of tonight."
Nigeria were one of the favourites to win the tournament, and confidence grew as they swatted away all comers, winning their first five games of the tournament.
However, the disappointment means the three-time AFCON champions will now look to secure a bronze medal and end their tournament campaign on a high when they take on the Pharaohs of Egypt this Saturday.
