Nigerian clubs missing as CIES names Al Ahly most followed club in Africa on social media
Egyptian giants Al Ahly have been named as the most followed football club in the world and Africa on social networks.
Pulse Sports Nigeria can report this after a report from statistics outfit CIES Football Observatory.
Ahly was named amongst the top 20 clubs in terms of followers on social media with no Nigerian clubs found in the top 100.
Al Ahly dominate in Africa again
The Egyptian side, who recently claimed another CAF Champions League title, has been ranked 14th in the world by the CIES.
This comes from the latest issue from the reliable statistics media outfit whose report focused on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok.
Al Ahly have 44.8 million followers across the four platforms to finish 14th in the world and first in Africa.
A further breakdown shows that the Champions League winners have 16 million followers on Twitter and Facebook, with 9.4 million followers on Instagram.
Ahly’s TikTok has the least followers, with 3.4 million of them on the video app.
Coming a far distant second on the continent is Morocco’s Raja Athletic with 10.2 million followers across the platforms.
Simba SC of Tanzania are third with 8.4 million followers while Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates of South Africa are fourth and fifth with 7.8 and 5.7 million followers respectively.
