Nigeria vs Mozambique: Lookman set to break Yekini's record faster than Osimhen
Victor Osimhen inched closer to breaking Rashidi Yekini's long-standing record of being the Super Eagles' record top scorer with his brace against Mozambique, which took him just three goals within the Goalsfather.
However, his teammate, Ademola Lookman, is also close to eclipsing Yekini for another record, and he is set to hit the mark before Osimhen inevitably usurps the late great Julius Berger striker.
Lookman closing down on Yekini
Yekini famously scored 37 goals in the green and white of Nigeria, and 13 of them came in the African Cup of Nations, and five in AFCON knockout games (excluding third-place playoffs).
Lookman, in his second tournament, is already on six AFCON goals, four of which have come in knockout games. This means that he is only one goal away from matching Yekini's AFCON knockout goal count and two from beating it.

Nigeria are set to play the winner from the round-of-16 clash between Algeria and DR Congo, and should Lookman continue his current run of scoring in every match he has played this tournament, he will match and possibly surpass the record in Nigeria's next game.
His first three AFCON knockout goals came in the round-of-16 and quarter-finals of the last edition, in which he scored a brace against Cameroon and once against Angola.
Even though he has said he does not think about it, Osimhen only needs three goals to match Yekini's all-time top scorer record and can clinch it within the AFCON if he matches his current tally. Scoring three more goals will see the Galatasaray man match the record for goals scored in an AFCON knockout game (excluding third-place playoffs),
