The Nigeria Super Eagles have joined global football governing body FIFA and CAF in celebrating the legendary Jay Jay Okocha on his 52nd birthday, honoring the iconic midfielder’s incredible legacy in world football.

Recognised by both the national team, CAF, and FIFA, Okocha is celebrated as one of Nigeria's most gifted and beloved football talents.

Known for his mesmerising dribbling skills, trickery, and expert set-piece delivery, Okocha's career dazzled fans across three continents.

Okocha began his European club career in Germany at Borussia Neunkirchen before making his mark at Eintracht Frankfurt, where he scored one of the most memorable Bundesliga goals against legendary goalkeeper Oliver Kahn.

He then played for Fenerbahce and Paris Saint-Germain, the latter signing him for an African record fee at the time.

At PSG, he won the Intertoto Cup and the French Super Cup and helped a young Ronaldinho settle into European football. Later, he became a club icon at Bolton Wanderers, widely regarded as the best player to have graced the Reebok Stadium.

Former Nigeria and Super Eagles skipper Jay Jay Okocha turns 52.

On the international stage, Okocha was part of Nigeria’s golden generation that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1994 and secured Olympic gold in 1996. 

He represented the Super Eagles in three FIFA World Cups and holds the distinction of scoring the 1000th goal in AFCON history. Over his international career, he earned 73 caps and scored 14 goals for Nigeria.

The Super Eagles took to their official X (formerly Twitter) account to celebrate the football magician: “73 caps, 14 goals. AFCON champion, Olympic gold medallist, So good, they had to name him twice. Happy birthday to the magical Jay-Jay Okocha; a true Super Eagles legend.”
