Newcastle United set deadline for £50m-rated Leicester City superstar
Premier League side Newcastle United have reportedly set a deadline to complete the transfer of James Maddison from Leicester City.
Newcastle are interested in the talented England international but do not want to see the deal drag on this summer according to a report by TalkSport.
The Magpies have now set a deadline for this week to wrap up a deal that will keep Maddison in the Premier League next season.
Newcastle United’s move for Maddison
The 26-year-old is one of the superstars at the King Power expected to leave the club following their relegation from the Premier League.
Newcastle are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of a tough next season after making it back to the Champions League for the first time in 20 years.
The Magpies have identified the Fox as a priority signing and want to bring him to St. James Park as soon as possible.
James interested in Newcastle
Maddison is reportedly open to the move and the reasons are not difficult to tell.
The talented attacking midfielder was on duty for England as the Three Lions sealed back-to-back wins in the Euro2024 qualifiers.
With the final slated for next year, Maddison is aware he needs to remain in the Premier League to stand a chance of making it to Gareth Southgate’s team.
Also, the chance to go from fighting relegation to playing in the Champions League is too good to turn down by any player.
Why the Magpies want him
The attacking midfielder had an excellent season in the Premier League for Leicester last season.
He scored 10 goals and assisted nine others which is an excellent return in a difficult campaign for the Foxes.
But while his 19-goal contributions were not enough to save Leicester from the drop, they were enough to alert other clubs.
Maddison is a man in demand, with Tottenham another club interested in the attacking midfielder.
