Newcastle emerge as serious contenders for Man United reject Rashford

The England international spent the latter half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, but the Birmingham club has yet to make a concrete offer to extend his stay at Villa Park.

While Rashford has reportedly expressed a desire to join Barcelona, the Catalan giants are prioritising the acquisition of Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao.

Although Rashford's versatility across the forward line could theoretically open doors at Camp Nou, Barcelona have not initiated any discussions regarding a potential transfer.

According to Sportal, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is keen to bring Rashford to St. James' Park, not as a replacement for Alexander Isak, whom he hopes to keep, but as a rotation option given their Champions League commitments next season.

The report suggests Newcastle would prefer an anti-loanee, while Manchester United favours a permanent transfer.

With 33-year-old Callum Wilson potentially departing Newcastle this summer, Eddie Howe is looking to bolster his attacking options.

The Manchester United player made 17 appearances for Aston Villa, scoring four goals and providing six assists.
