NBA Investigates Ja Morant for finger Gun gesture
The NBA launched an investigation into Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant following his use of a finger gun gesture directed at the Golden State Warriors bench.
The incident occurred late in the fourth quarter of a 134-125 loss to the Warriors, with Morant forming imaginary guns with both hands and pointing them toward the Warriors' bench during a timeout with 20.1 seconds remaining.
The gesture, which took place as Morant walked toward the Grizzlies' bench, prompted immediate attention from league officials, who issued double technical fouls to both Morant and Warriors guard Buddy Hield.
The NBA is taking the matter seriously, particularly given Morant’s troubling history with gun-related incidents.
In March 2023, Morant was suspended for eight games after posing with a gun on Instagram Live while at a Colorado nightclub, an incident that led him to enter a counseling program.
Just two months later, in May 2023, he was suspended again—this time for 25 games—after another Instagram Live video showed him posing with a gun in a car, an action the NBA deemed "reckless and irresponsible" given his prior suspension.
Additionally, Morant was investigated for an incident following a January 2023 game against the Indiana Pacers, where a red laser pointer was allegedly shined at the Pacers’ team bus by someone in Morant’s SUV, though the NBA could not confirm a weapon was involved.
