National Youth Games: Lorelay Holzendorff dreams of playing at US Open
Nigeria's teenager, Lorelay Holzendorff, said her dream is to play at the US Open.
The Nigerian tennis U-14 champion defeated U-16 champion Bright Emmanuel on her way to winning the girls' singles at the ongoing National Youth Games.
She defeated Aina Goodnews from Ekiti State in the girls' singles final to become the Youth Games champion.
Holzendorff dreams of playing at US Open
Holzendorff revealed that she is proud of winning gold medal after her second attempt at the Youth Games.
"I feel happy about winning the gold medal. This is my second time representing Edo State at the National Youth Games. I got to the quarterfinals the last time, and I told myself that I must win gold in this edition.
"The state should be optimistic, as I will be putting more effort into training so I can make them prouder. My dream is to play at the US Open," she said
Lorelay Holzendorff Idolises Serena Williams
The U-14 champion told Pulse Sports that she decided to choose Serena Williams as her mentor because of the tennis legend's achievements in the game.
"I feel happy and good because i just beat U-16 champions, i idolised Serena Williams becuse of the her passion for the game and achivements"
Serena Williams is widely regarded as one of the greatest tennis players of all time as she won 23 Grand Slam women's singles titles, the most in the Open Era, and the second-most of all time.
