Nasarawa Amazons are on the verge of clinching their first Nigerian Women's Football League (NWFL) title in eight years.
Under the guidance of head coach Christopher Musa Danjuma, the Lafia-based club is showing impressive form as they approach the final stage of the competition.
Danjuma, a seasoned figure in Nigerian women's football, expressed cautious optimism about his team's chances.
"It's just one more step, so that we can shout Hallelujah," he said, indicating his confidence in the team's ability to secure the title.
With the Super Six final round approaching, Nasarawa Amazons currently lead the league table with eight points. They hold an undefeated record after four matches, comprising two wins and two draws, giving them a total of eight points.
However, defending champions Edo Queens are close behind with seven points, setting up a thrilling finale.
The title will be decided on Saturday at 3:00 pm, with all three matches of Matchday 5 kicking off simultaneously at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne. This arrangement ensures a fair and exciting conclusion to the title race.
Nasarawa Amazons are set to face Edo Queens in a highly anticipated match. The outcome of this game will be decisive, as a win for either team will guarantee them the championship.
A draw, however, could open the door for other teams to win, depending on goal difference and the number of goals scored.
"It's one more step, and whatever energy we need to just take that last lap, to the glory of God, we must do. We will not come this far and want to have a setback," Danjuma reiterated.
Danjuma's extensive experience in Nigerian women's football includes his role as the head coach of Nigeria's U-20 women's team, the Falconets, since 2017. He led the team to the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup and the Round of 16 in the previous tournament.
Now, Danjuma is on transition or division of achieving a great domestic success with Nasarawa Amazons.
The club aims to win its first league title since 2017, which would be its third title overall, following victories in 2013 and 2017.
