Moffi edges closer to Nice exit door after clash with fans as club opens talks with replacement
OGC Nice’s January transfer plans are beginning to take shape as uncertainty grows around Terem Moffi’s future at the club.
A toxic atmosphere following a confrontation with supporters has accelerated Nice’s search for attacking reinforcements, with Elye Wahi now firmly on their radar.
Fan clash fuels uncertainty around Moffi’s future
The Nigerian forward has been on sick leave since the incident and has missed consecutive matches, including fixtures against Angers SCO, Lens, and Saint-Étienne, as Nice closed out the year with a 2-1 win.
This comes after reports that around 400 angry fans blocked the team bus, for nearly 45 minutes following a defeat to Lorientlit flares, and verbally and physically confronted players and staff, creating an uneasy environment around the squad.
The episode has had a notable impact on Moffi, whose form had already come under scrutiny after a slow start to the season, with just three goals in 15 appearances across all competitions.
With the January window approaching, speculation around his future has intensified, particularly amid interest from Premier League sides Leeds United and Wolverhampton Wanderers, both eager to strengthen their attacking options.
Nice move for Wahi as replacement plans take shape
As doubts linger over Moffi, Nice have begun exploring replacement options and have opened talks for Elye Wahi.
The 22-year-old striker is edging closer to a return to France just a year after leaving Marseille for Eintracht Frankfurt. Wahi has emerged as a major target, largely due to his previous working relationship with Nice head coach Franck Haise at RC Lens.
Although Wahi initially preferred to remain in Germany, Haise has reportedly convinced him to consider a move to the Allianz Riviera.
An agreement is said to be in place between the player and Nice, with negotiations now focused on securing a loan deal with Frankfurt.
With Kevin Carlos failing to impress since his summer arrival and Nice battling near the relegation zone, the club’s pursuit of Wahi underlines growing acceptance that Moffi, who remains under contract until 2027, could be on his way out in January.
