Mind games? Kitara coach Ssenyondo rules out title charge, highlights reasons for season's success

Months after returning to the top-flight, Kitara FC is on the course of winning both the Uganda Premier League and the Stanbic Uganda Cup.

They lead the UPL table with 43 points, four ahead of their nearest rivals BUL FC with seven matches before the closure of the 2023/24 campaign.

The Royals are also into the quarterfinals of the Uganda Cup and are four matches away from the dream.

However, as he has done in recent weeks, head coach Brian Ssenyondo insists his team is not chasing titles this season.

"I'm not looking at the championship," said Ssenyondo in an interview with Sports Nation.

"My targets are the same as what the club set as I came, and its to make a top-five finish."

"I'm happy with my players and everyone involved, that we've not been out of our targets since the start of the season," the youthful tactician added.

Ssenyondo further attributed Kitara's brilliant campaign to majorly the work of club chairman Deo Kasozi, and the fans.

"The president of the club is the main head of running this. Every time the head is good, other things at the club will always be good."

"Then, it's massive the way our fans have pushed us, but also our players. They are always a unit and are like brothers," said Ssenyondo.

It should be noted that this is Kitara's second season in the Uganda Premier League history, yet their mark has been massively felt.
