CHAN 2024: Millions Harambee Stars Have Pocketed from President William Ruto

The financial windfall is largely due to a historic reward scheme by President William Ruto. Before the tournament began, the President met with the team and laid out a clear plan.

He noted that for every match won, each member of the 42-person delegation, comprising 27 players and 15 technical staff, was promised Ksh 1 million. A draw would earn each individual Sh500,000.

The funds were disbursed promptly after each match, providing a tangible and immediate reward for the team's efforts.

President Ruto added that if Harambee Stars win their match against Zambia, each individual will get Ksh 2.5 million.

Initially, President Ruto had also promised Harambee Stars that reaching the quarterfinals would unlock a collective Ksh 60 million, to go towards the team and the federation.

Advancing to the semifinals would fetch Ksh 70 million, and should the Harambee Stars make history by winning the CHAN trophy, they would be rewarded with an astonishing Ksh 600 million.
