What Mbappe said
Mbappé left Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2024 as arguably PSG’s greatest modern player after a trophy-filled spell at Parc des Princes for a sensational move to Real Madrid, where he is in his second season; hence, he is well positioned to explain the difference.
“They are very different clubs, with different histories,” he said, per Football Espana. “PSG is a much younger club, while Real Madrid has many more years and a deeper history.
“The culture is also different. Without a doubt, Real Madrid is the best club in the world, but PSG is also among the best. They are two different ways of understanding football, and I am proud to have been part of Real Madrid and Paris.”
King at PSG; emerging hero at Real Madrid
Mbappé scored 256 goals in 308 appearances for PSG across all competitions and won multiple Ligue 1 titles and domestic cups while regularly finishing as the league’s top scorer, achievements that cemented his status as a PSG legend.
Mbappé’s decision not to renew his contract was the culmination of a long, public transfer saga in which Real Madrid were repeatedly linked to him and PSG made several efforts to keep him before he confirmed in May 2024 that he would depart.
His decision to leave PSG, where he was given the keys to the team, for Real Madrid underscores the size disparity between both clubs.
