Mason Greenwood’s Nigerian fans help Getafe win LaLiga favorite jersey award

LaLiga’s contest for the best jersey of the 2023/24 season has ended with Getafe’s home kit being recognised as the top of the lot. 

Getafe entered the contest against the other 19 teams in LaLiga, with the Madrid-based side coming out tops after seeking help from their Nigerian fans. 

At the start of the contest, Getafe reached out to their Nigerian fans to help them win the voting-based contest with a message on Facebook, using the popularity of new signing Mason Greenwood among Nigerians. 

Getafe posted a message on their Facebook page, saying, “Friends of Nigeria, the starboy [Greenwood] needs your help.”

“Let’s vote together for Getafe’s shirt as the most beautiful in LALIGA. Let’s go, all together, for the victory.”

Their call for help worked, as Getafe won the contest with fans voting en masse for the blue camiesta of the Madrid side. 

Getafe were able to count on the support of Nigerian fans who had taken to English winger Greenwood well before his move to the LaLiga side. 

Greenwood became a fan favourite after charges of domestic violence and coercion against the Manchester United forward on loan at Getafe were dropped, with many calling for his immediate reinstatement to the Red Devils’ team at the time.
